The Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS) and the Unit for Asian Studies and Education (KUASU) hosted the Kyoto Summer Program (KSP) 2025 from 24 July to 8 August 2025.

This year, a total of 31 students participated through ILAS, including 28 students from partner universities such as Peking University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, National Taiwan University, Yonsei University, Heidelberg University, University of Vienna, University of Barcelona, University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and the University of Florida, along with 3 students who were selected through individual applications.

The KSP program is structured into four main components: academic lectures showcasing the unique research from our university, Japanese language courses, field trip and cultural experiences, and a forum for students from each country to discuss common issues. The academic lectures offered participants insights into cutting-edge research across various disciplines, including primatology, mathematics, and Expo-logy. International students deepened their understanding of history and culture through a field trip in Shiga Prefecture, cultural experiences such as Yuzen zome dying and Noh experience and engaged in lively discussions with our students through Japanese language courses and forums.

In this place where different cultures and values intersect, our students learned from and inspired one another, fostering an international perspective and lasting friendships.

From Kyoto to the world—this program will continue to evolve, aiming to develop global leaders for the future and to further deepen international exchange.
