日本における日常生活で必要な基礎漢字に触れ、親しめるようになる。
漢字学習の仕方を身につけ、自学自習できる道筋をつける。

The purpose of this course is for students to learn basic Kanji necessary for daily life in Japan. Students will be given tools to learn Kanji by themselves with the aim that they become independent learners.

・漢字に興味を持つこと。
・200字程度の漢字を学習し、そのうち100字程度の漢字を確実に使えるようになること。

Course goals are as follows:
・To develop an interest in Kanji characters.
・To be able to read and write 100 Kanji, and to be able to recognize 200 Kanji.

Course goals are as follows:

・Improve your Japanese reading and writing abilities by applying the grammar and vocabulary you have already learned in the first half of Elementary.
・Increase the number of words and kanji you know. Be able to understand their meanings in the reading and use them in your writing.
・Be able to correctly read kanji from the first half of Elementary even if the furigana readings are not given. With the aid of a dictionary, be able to read higher-level kanji and understand the meaning of higher-level words.
・Be able to understand new grammar appearing in the reading from the second half of Elementary, and begin using it in your writing.
・Over the course of the semester, become accustomed to different types of reading materials and their various forms and writing styles.
・Be able to write about your thoughts or about information you want to convey in your own words and in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.
・Be able to read and write at a level of proficiency equivalent to the JLPT N4 or CEFR A2 levels.

・毎週（まいしゅう）、授業（じゅぎょう）の前（まえ）に、教科書（きょうかしょ）のことばを覚（おぼ）えてください。教科書に別冊（べっさつ）「語彙（ごい）リスト」があります。

・Students are expected to memorize new vocabulary before coming to class each week. The textbook comes with a vocabulary list (booklet).
・Furigana readings are given for the kanji in the reading material we will be using. However, students who have not studied kanji previously will find it helpful to memorize the readings for the kanji from the JLPT N5/ CEFR A1 level (first half of Elementary) before coming to class each week.

このコースの目標は、文法的な正確さと語用論的な適正に重きをおきながら、話す・聞く・読む・書くの４技能の基礎的なスキルを獲得することである。

The purpose of this course is to develop fundamental skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, emphasizing grammatical accuracy and pragmatically appropriate language use.

The sequence of grammatical items and the teaching method are generally the same as in the Tuesday and Friday courses. Still, in this course, we will actively introduce grammatical items related to the basic grammatical items that are not covered in the textbook.

The purpose of this course is to develop fundamental skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on grammatical accuracy and pragmatically appropriate language use.

The sequence of grammatical items and the teaching method are generally the same as in the Monday and Friday courses, but in this course we will actively introduce grammatical items related to the basic grammatical items that are not covered in the textbook.

このコースの目標は、文法的な正確さと語用論的な適正に重きをおきながら、話す・聞く・読む・書くの４技能の基礎的なスキルを獲得することである。
文法項目の配列と授業の進め方は、概ね、月曜日・金曜日コースと同じであるが、教科書では記載されていない、関係する文法項目を積極的に取り入れる。

日本語初級II（8Hコース）は初級前半を終えた学習者を対象に「話す・聞く・読む・書く」の4技能を総合的に向上させるためのコースとして設計されている。本コースは週4コマから構成されている。日常生活のさまざまな場面でコミュニケーションがとれるように、必要な読み書きのスキルと会話能力を身につけることを目的とする。一学期を通して新しい文型や語彙を学ぶだけでなく、初級前半で習った文型や語彙の応用練習も行う。

This is an integrated course offered as a sequence of 4 class periods per week designed for students who have completed the first half of Elementary Japanese. The purpose of the course is for students to attain the reading, writing and conversation skills necessary for communicating in a variety of everyday situations. Students will not only learn new elementary sentence patterns and build their vocabulary, but they will also practice applying the sentence patterns and vocabulary previously learned.

本コースの到達目標は以下の通りである。

This is a conversation class for students who have completed the first half of Elementary Japanese. The purpose of the course is for students to attain the conversation skills necessary for communicating in a variety of everyday situations. Students will learn about Japanese culture, reflect on their own culture, and deepen intercultural understanding.

・基本的な個人情報や家族情報、買い物、仕事などで、よく使われる文や表現が理解できるようになる。
・簡単で日常的な範囲であれば、身近で日常の事柄についての情報交換に応ずることができる。
・自分の背景や身の回りの状況や、直接的な必要性がある領域の事柄を簡単な言葉で説明できるようになる。
・JLPT N4/ CEFR A2 レベルに相当するレベルを達成する。

・To be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (for example basic personal and family information, shopping, employment).
・To be able to communicate in situations that require a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
・To be able to describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment, and matters of immediate need.
・To attain a level of proficiency equivalent to the JLPT N4 or CEFR A2 levels.

メインテキストとして、『まるごと　日本のことばと文化　初級2A2　かつどう』を使用し、毎回1〜2課ずつ学習していく。授業計画は以下の通りである。

日本語初級II（4Hコース）は初級前半を終えた学習者を対象とする。構成は週2コマである。授業では文法、語彙の定着とコミュニケーション能力の向上を図るべく「話す・聞く」の技能を中心に学習し、日常生活のさまざまな場面でコミュニケーションがとれるように、必要な会話能力を身につけることをコースの目的としている。また、一学期を通して新しい文型や語彙を学ぶだけでなく、初級前半で習った文型や語彙の応用練習も行う。なお、授業の進捗状況を見て、2、3回程度読解のアクティビティを行うことがある。

This is an integrated course offered as a sequence of 2 class sessions per week designed for students who have completed the first half of Elementary Japanese. This course aims to develop skills in listening and speaking with an emphasis on vocabulary building and acquiring grammatical competence. The students will attain the conversation skills necessary for communicating in a variety of everyday situations. Students will not only learn new elementary sentence patterns and build their vocabulary, but they will also practice applying the sentence patterns and vocabulary previously learned. 『初級日本語〔げんき〕II（第3版）』で、必ず各課の「単語」を予習し、「文法」解説を読んでくること。
Students are required to learn the vocabulary and read the grammar explanations in each lesson before coming to class.

日本における日常生活で必要な基礎漢字に触れ、親しめるようになる。
漢字学習の仕方を身につけ、自学自習できる道筋をつける。

The purpose of this course is for students to learn basic Kanji necessary for daily life in Japan. Students will be given tools to learn Kanji by themselves with the aim that they become independent learners.

・漢字に興味を持つこと。
・200字程度の漢字を学習し、そのうち100字程度の漢字を確実に使えるようになること。

このコースの目標は、文法的な正確さと語用論的な適正に重きをおきながら、話す・聞く・読む・書くの４技能の基礎的なスキルを獲得することである。

The purpose of this course is to develop fundamental skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, emphasizing grammatical accuracy and pragmatically appropriate language use.

The sequence of grammatical items and the teaching method are generally the same as in the Tuesday and Friday courses. Still, in this course, we will actively introduce grammatical items related to the basic grammatical items that are not covered in the textbook.

日本語初級II（8Hコース）は初級前半を終えた学習者を対象に「話す・聞く・読む・書く」の4技能を総合的に向上させるためのコースとして設計されている。本コースは週4コマから構成されている。日常生活のさまざまな場面でコミュニケーションがとれるように、必要な読み書きのスキルと会話能力を身につけることを目的とする。一学期を通して新しい文型や語彙を学ぶだけでなく、初級前半で習った文型や語彙の応用練習も行う。

This is an integrated course offered as a sequence of 4 class periods per week designed for students who have completed the first half of Elementary Japanese. The purpose of the course is for students to attain the reading, writing and conversation skills necessary for communicating in a variety of everyday situations. Students will not only learn new elementary sentence patterns and build their vocabulary, but they will also practice applying the sentence patterns and vocabulary previously learned.

Elementary Japanese II (8H course) is comprised of the following four class periods.

We will use Elementary Japanese Genki II, Third Edition, (The Japan Times) as our main textbook, and cover one lesson each week. The course schedule is as follows.

・Nounがほしい、〜かもしれません、Nounをあげる／くれる／もらう、〜たらどうですか、Numberも／しか
・Verb(よ)う(volitional form)、〜(よ)うと思っています(thinking of doing〜)、〜ておく、連体修飾節(using a sentence to qualify a noun)
・Verbてあげる／くれる／もらう、〜ていただけませんか、〜といい、〜時、〜てすみませんでした

【19課〜23課 Lessons 19〜23】
・敬語(尊敬語, honorific speech)、〜てくれてありがとう、〜てよかったです、〜はずです
・敬語(謙譲語, humble speech)、〜ないで、〜か／どうか、〜やすい／にくい
・受身文(passive sentences)、〜てある、〜あいだに、Adjectiveする／になる、Verbてほしい

・参加態度(30％)、中間試験(30％)、期末試験(40％)によって成績を判定する。
・成績評価基準の更なる詳細については、授業中に指示する。
・４コマ連続の授業であるため、各コマ全回数の三分の一以上の欠席者は評価の対象としない。
・The student's final grade will be determined based on in-class participation (30%), midterm exam (30%) and final exam (40%).
・Details of the grading method and evaluation criteria will be provided in class.
・Students who are absent from 1/3 or more of the total 15 sessions of each class will not be evaluated.

『初級日本語〔げんき〕II（第3版）』で、必ず各課の「単語」を予習し、文法解説を読んでくること。
Students are required to learn the vocabulary and read the grammar explanations in each lesson before coming to class.
