統計に関する知識は、実験、試験、調査などの結果を用いた実証研究を行う上でなくてはならないものである。生活に関わるさまざまな効果やリスクがデータとともに語られ、生活者としても統計に対するリテラシーが求められるようになった。企業活動では、情報技術の発展によって、日々膨大なデータが生成されており、その活用が求められるようになった。本講は、研究や、生活、社会・経済活動に不可欠な統計を、集計・分析し、理解する力を養うことを目的とする。

ただし、統計や統計学については、膨大な研究の蓄積が有り、その利用はきわめて多分野に亘る。しかも、各分野で独自の発展をとげている部分もあり、本講のみでそのすべてを扱うことは出来ない。したがって、本講では、統計ならびに統計学に関する基本的な考え方を中心に講義することで、より発展的な統計・統計学の学習への礎となることを目指す。

具体的には、二元分割表（２×２クロス集計表）の独立性の検定と関連性の強さの推定を主な題材として、統計データの収集、チェック、集計、分析、結果の解釈という一連の過程について解説し、統計データの発生、仮説検定と推定の考え方に関する理解を深める。

なお本講は、統計分析手順の機械的な利用や解釈だけを講義するのではなく、その基礎となる考え方を学ぶことを目指している。しかし、統計学的命題について、厳密な数学的証明は避け、あくまで統計・統計学のエンドユーザーとして必要とされる直感的な理解を目指す。

本講義の単位（2単位）を修得することで、文部科学省が定める数理・データサイエンス・AI教育プログラム　リテラシーレベル(MDASH Literacy)修了証の取得が可能である。
修了証取得の手続きについては、講義内で担当教員より指示がある。

講義を中心とするが、自習として統計分析ソフト（JMPやR等）を利用した演習を課す。
ソフトウェア JMP については、JMP Student Editionを各自で登録の上で自身のコンピュータにインストールして使用する。詳細は授業中に指示する。

このクラスは文系向きのクラスです。文系学部生はこちらのクラスを推奨します。

アカデミックリーディング

本授業の目標は、高校までの詰め込み英語学習から一旦離れ、英語で書かれた学術記事を通じて、科学の楽しさを体感し、学術英語技能と科学のセンスを研ぎ澄ますことです。授業では講師と学生との双方向コミュニケーションを重視しています。指定教科書の他に、毎回小さな議題を設定するので、自分なりの意見や主張を考え、それを他者にうまく伝える工夫をしましょう。相手の意見にも耳を傾けましょう。そうすることで、色んな興味関心や背景を持つ学生と議論することで知の相乗効果を図ります。

＊英語力の実用面では毎回簡単で短いテキストのディクテーションとシャドーイング を10分ほど行い普段使わない脳と口の筋肉を動かします。

この授業では、(1)英語で書かれた学術記事の講読を通じて、学術英語に慣れ、それを使いこなす技術を習得すること、(2)日常生活の小さな疑問や出来事を、異なる価値観や様々な学術領域から考察する能力を培うこと、（3）日本語と英語の両方で自分の伝えたいことを他者にわかりやすく伝える能力（プレゼンテーション能力）を養うことの３点を主な目標とします。授業を通じて、学術の器と人間の器の両面を広くするために切磋琢磨していきます。

授業中の自由で積極的な発言と、自ら主体的に調べて学ぶ姿勢を評価します。学術英語技術を習得する授業なので、必要に応じて、より適切な英語の発音やアクセント、イントネーション、表現に授業内では誘導していきますが、成績評価では、英語の発音の正確さや流暢な英語力だけではなく、むしろ予習、復習そして積極性や主体性を重視します。
インターネットでの情報検索は上手に使い、検索して得る情報と、自分の中に吸収して自身の血や肉となる知識や技術とは分けて考えましょう。

授業の予習として、わからない英単語や用語は事前に調べておいてください。授業では双方向コミュニケーションを重視していますので、積極的に発言しましょう。

私は，大学英語教育の目的とは，母語を介在させずに瞬時に英語を理解（聞く・読む）して表出（話す・書く）することができる高速な外国語処理能力の定着と，自由に運用することができる（母語に近い）語彙・表現形式の獲得であると考えています。

この授業では，科学者を目指す学生にとって必要な教養を，英語学習と併行しながら身につけていきます。表出すること（話す・書く）を射程に入れつつ，科学分野の学術書・英語論文の構成や特有な表現方法，思考法と提示法などを実践的に学習しながら体得していくことを目標とします。

・「一般学術目的の英語」としての位置づけ
この授業では，最新の言語習得理論研究の成果を取り入れながら，文脈や場面，状況の中での語彙・表現形式の定着を中心に据えた学習方法をとることにより，学術分野においてより的確で使用域の広い英語能力獲得に向けた学習を行います。

・教材の性質や主題
母語話者による自叙伝・物語文の具体例として，James Watsonの著作を活用します。理学部推奨のこの書籍は，比較的平易な一人称文で回顧する文体であるため，内容理解技術（主題，見解と解釈，事実と叙述など）に重点を置いて学習します。また英語論文を適宜配信します。

　私の学生時代を含めて，英米の大学・大学院では，一週間に合計百冊百本の文献を読んだ上で，口頭発表やレポート作成を毎週行うことは当然の日常です。訳読式では全く対応ができません。国際的な舞台で，こうして教育を受けた人々と対等に論議しながら活躍していくためには，翻訳に代わる英文理解・表出技術が必要となってきます。従って，負荷が高い訳読法を基盤とした母語に絶えず依存する英語理解・表出の習慣から早期に脱却することを最重要課題として位置づけます。
　私は数少ない言語習得論の専門家で，国内外の様々な研究教育機関の方々と日々協働しています。長年にわたって国内外の理学・工学・生理学系の研究者・技術者たちとも，産官学共同研究や認知科学プロジェクトを重ね，学者として英語論文や英語書籍を毎年発表していますので，研究者としての基本的なアプローチを具体的に示していきます。皆さんには，自らの英語学習経験を客観的に内省し，次世代を担う知識人として，ぜひ建設的な見識を身につける機会として欲しいと思います。

疑似科学（pseudoscience）についての英語文献を精読・通読する。本書は疑似科学の歴史、種類、定義の問題、受容・論争など幅広く論じており、我々の身近にも起こりうる問題としてそれらについて理解・関心を深めていく。英語リーディングとしての目的は、科学に関する一般読者向けの文章を正確かつスピーディに読み、かつ把握した内容を英語でまとめて発表したり、主体的に他の英語資料をリサーチするなど、総合的な英語運用能力の向上を図ることにある。

1）科学に関する一般読者向けの文章を正確かつスピーディに読み、その内容を口頭で説明することができる。

Academic writing & listening

For the development of students' skills in English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP), English Writing-Listening A (EWLA) consists of three components: writing, listening, and vocabulary.

For practice with writing, students identify, recognize, or understand basic elements of academic writing and, then, recall and apply this knowledge in the process of organizing and revising a short academic essay of at least 300 words. Under the guidance of the instructor they learn necessary foundational academic writing skills as stated in the Course Goal section below.

For practice with listening, students take the online course known as GORILLA (Global Online Resources for International Language Learning Assistance) outside class. They are assessed on their listening proficiency through weekly online assignments, as well as the four tests that the instructor administers in class.

For vocabulary learning, students use the standard reference book titled “Kyoto University Vocabulary Database 1110.” Like the listening component, students independently study words from the general academic list that the instructor assigns (usually 50 words a week) and are tested on a number of these words weekly.

By the end of this course, students will acquire the following skills at varying levels. Students should be able to:
- Recognize and use basic academic words in English
- Process general academic discourse presented aurally
- Identify the locations, functions, and features of the standard elements of essay introduction paragraphs (i.e., hook, topic statements, general statements and thesis statement) and apply this knowledge to write suitable introduction paragraphs for short academic essays
- Identify the locations, functions, and features of the standard elements of body paragraphs (i.e., topic sentence, supporting sentences, detail sentences, concluding sentence) and apply this knowledge to write suitable body paragraphs for short academic essays
- Identify the locations, functions, and features of the standard elements of conclusion paragraphs (i.e., summary of main points, final statement) and apply this knowledge to write suitable conclusion paragraphs for short academic essays
- Recognize basic methods of maintaining the unity (e.g., definitions) and coherence (e.g., transitional words) of ideas in short academic essays, and apply this knowledge to writing.
- Recall and apply basic conventions (e.g., punctuation) when formatting short academic essays
- Understand basic paraphrasing techniques (e.g., using synonyms, changing structure) to integrate information from external sources, recognize basic citation conventions, and utilize this knowledge to avoid plagiarism
- Understand the writing process and utilize it for drafting and editing to produce short academic essays
- Combine knowledge of (i) the structure of a short academic essay, with allowances made for rhetorical style such as problem-solution and argumentation, and (ii) the writing process, and apply this knowledge to produce a short academic essay of at least 300 words

Students are required to study academic vocabulary from the designated part (EGAP vocabulary) of the "Kyoto University Vocabulary Database 1110" outside of class, and regularly take vocabulary assessments in class.

Academic writing & listening

For the development of students' skills in English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP), English Writing-Listening A (EWLA) consists of three components: writing, listening, and vocabulary.

For practice with writing, students identify, recognize, or understand basic elements of academic writing and, then, recall and apply this knowledge in the process of organizing and revising a short academic essay of at least 300 words. Under the guidance of the instructor they learn necessary foundational academic writing skills as stated in the Course Goal section below.

For practice with listening, students take the online course known as GORILLA (Global Online Resources for International Language Learning Assistance) outside class. 情報収集、友人とのコミュニケーション、ネットショッピングなど、インターネットの利用はごく日常的なことであり、その利便性は言うまでもない。誰もが自由に利用できるようになってから30年近く経ち、その仕組みを理解していなくても手軽に利用できる時代となったが、仕組みを正しく理解できていなければ使いこなせないだけでなく、トラブルに巻き込まれて被害者になったり、気づかないうちに加害者になってしまうこともありうる。
本科目では、インターネットを構成する様々な技術やサービスの仕組み、ネットワークを安全かつ効果的に利用するための情報技術や情報セキュリティ、さらには情報ネットワーク社会のルールについて理解することで、インターネットをなんとなく利用するレベルから脱却し、大学生活のみならす社会人になってからもインターネットをより適切かつ効果的に利用し、また起こりうる問題を回避する、あるいは問題を的確に把握し解決するための素養を身につけることを目的とする。

インターネットを実現している通信の仕組み（要素技術とその基本的な考え方）、その上で提供されている各種サービスの仕組み、情報セキュリティに関わる問題と対策、さらに著作権、個人情報保護、その他法律など情報ネットワーク社会のルールを理解する。情報ネットワーク技術を安全かつ効果的に活用するための知識を身につけることで、これからの技術や社会の発展に継続的にキャッチアップできるようになることを目指す。

Formal language theory is a fundamental area of theoretical computer science that studies (among other things) different ways of representing possibly infinite collections of words having some shared structure.
It is closely related to computability, computational complexity, and mathematical logic, and has practical applications in linguistics, artificial intelligence, and the design of programming languages.
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to formal language theory for non-computer science students.
The main topics include finite-state automata, regular languages, pushdown automata, context-free languages, Turing machines, and decidability.

After completing this course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the relationships between different classes of formal languages, automata, and grammars.
- Design an automaton or a grammar that accepts or generates a specified formal language, and conversely, determine the formal language that is accepted or generated by a specified automaton or grammar.
- Prove or disprove mathematical properties of formal languages, grammars, and automata.
- Use the diagonalization method or reductions to establish that certain languages are undecidable.
- Understand how the concept of "information" can be defined using computability theory.

本演習では情報セキュリティ，学術情報の検索，資料の入手，情報の利用，表計算ソフトによるデータ処理，Pythonによるプログラミング利用，AIツールによるプレゼンテーション資料作成や情報整理などの実践により，情報の処理およびAI技術の利活用について基礎的な知識・技術を修得することを目的とする。

・情報をコンピュータ上で表現する方法および安全な利用方法について理解する
・表計算ソフトを用いたデータの編集・保存・分析する基礎的手法を習得する
・プログラミングに関する基本的な概念と文法ならびに論理的思考能力を習得する
・AIの基本的な特性および適切な活用方法を習得する
・以上を通じて，学科で掲げる学習・教育目標の中の，A1コミュニケーションおよびプレゼンテーション能力，B1科学的問題解決能力，D1問題発見・解決能力を習得する。

演習は複数形式で実施し，1T5を佐藤裕一，1T6を孫安陽が担当する。

■第1回　ガイダンスと情報セキュリティ
■第2〜6回　表計算ソフトの利用(MS Excel)
　表計算ソフトを用いて基礎的なデータ整理・グラフ描画等に関する演習を行う。
■第7回　表計算ソフト実技テスト
■第8回　工学系学術情報の基礎として、学術情報の検索、資料の入手、情報の利用について学ぶ。
■第9〜12回 プログラミング実習（Python）
　プログラミングに関する基礎的な文法，ライブラリの利用法について演習を通じて習得し，プログラムを用いたデータ処理法を学ぶ。
■第13〜14回　AIツールの利用方法を習得し、AIツールを用いて問題解決の実習を行う。
■第15回　フィードバック

第15回の演習時間中に，全体の学習到達度の確認と，質疑，補足説明を行う。

Microsoft Office（Word，Excel，PowerPointの三種）がインストールされたノートパソコンの持参を前提とする。
なお、京都大学はMicrosoft社と契約を締結しており、学生はMicrosoft365を個別負担なく利用できる。詳細は「入学案内」を確認すること。

演習時間内でほぼ毎回課題を与えてレポートを提出させる。
その他，中間テスト・小テストを実施する。
成績は演習課題の理解度および情報処理操作の習熟度に基づいて下記の配分で評価する。
課題評価：30％　中間テストおよび小テスト：50％　定常点：20％

演習後の復習として，習得した技術・知識を再確認すること。
またそれらを他の講義科目のレポート作成等に活用すること。

情報環境機構が提供する情報セキュリティe-Learningを必ず受講し，修了テストを受けた上で，同テストのフィードバックを確認しておくこと。授業内では受講のための時間は設けないので授業時間外に受講しておくこと。同e-Learningは学生も含めた本学の全構成員に対して毎年受講が求められているものである。2回生以上で過去の年度に受講した場合でも今年度まだ受講していないのであれば必ず受講すること。

パーソナルコンピュータおよびAIを物理工学学習の道具として使いこなせるよう、コンピュータリテラシーを育成する。受講者は、各自パーソナルコンピュータを操作し、毎時間与えられた課題に対しレポートを提出する。

レポート作成、データ整理、発表等がコンピュータを使用してできるようになる。プログラミングを行う際に必要な操作と、プログラミングの基礎がわかるようになる。

授業回数はフィードバックを含め全15回とする。

パーソナルコンピュータの基本操作や主要なアプリケーションソフトウェアの基礎的な扱い方、AIの活用方法について、演習を通じて習熟する。また、プログラミングのための基本操作についても学習する。

「授業計画と内容」に示した項目ごとに課題が設定され、その課題の提出状況や内容によって成績を評価する。

授業前にテキストを読んで演習内容を確認しておくこと。

物理工学科で開講する情報AI基礎演習では学生本人が所有するノートパソコンを持参するBYOD（Bring Your Own Device）形式での演習を予定している。従って、物理工学科の情報基礎演習を履修する学生は、必ず自分のノートパソコンを授業に持参すること（初回の授業からノートパソコンを使用した演習を行う）。なお、授業中にノートパソコンの充電が切れないように十分に充電しておくこと。念のため充電器を持参しても良いが、同時に充電できる台数には限りがある。
持参するノートパソコンについて：ノートパソコンは高性能である必要はないが、無線LANは必須である。OSはWindows、Macのいずれも可だが、iPad等のタブレット端末は認めない。ノートパソコンの推奨仕様などについては新入生向け冊子「入学案内」を参照すること。なお、持参するノートパソコンには、ウイルス対策ソフトウエアを必ず導入しておくこと。
