Plant ecology is fundamental to agriculture, conservation, and climate change research. This course explores key ecological principles, focusing on how light, water, nutrients, and disturbances shape plant distribution and adaptation.
Emphasizing real-world applications, students will examine crop responses to climate change, plant-microbe interactions in soil, and the impact of invasive species on agriculture. Modern tools, including genomics and ecological modeling, will be introduced to understand plant-environment interactions and support sustainable land management.
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply ecological concepts to challenges in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem resilience.

今日では、コンピュータやネットワーク、様々なセンサなどの技術の進歩により、日々膨大なデータが蓄積されるようになった。これらのデータの活用への期待は大きく、データを適切に分析し、その結果から適切な判断を下すことが重要である。
「データ分析演習Ⅱ」は、ICT（情報通信技術）の進展とビッグデータ、さらにデータ表現の基礎等を確認したうえで、原則としてプログラミング言語を用いた経験のない学生を対象として、データ解析の基礎を習得する実践科目である。
本演習は、文部科学省のモデルカリキュラム（応用基礎レベル）の内、データサイエンス基礎とデータエンジニアリング基礎、AI基礎をバランスよくカバーする形で構成されている。
具体的には、データサイエンス活用事例 （仮説検証、知識発見、原因究明、計画策定、判断支援、活動代替など）として公的統計や社会調査のオープンデータやデータアーカイブを用いた実習を行う。Excelや汎用統計ソフトを用いて「統計入門」等で学んだ分析目的の設定に始まり、データ分析の手続きや分析結果の考察、さらには背景となる理論を実践的に学習していく。
本演習の単位（2単位）を修得することで、文部科学省が定める数理・データサイエンス・AI教育プログラム応用基礎レベル(MDASH Advanced Literacy)修了証の取得が可能である。修了証取得の手続きについては、講義内で担当教員より指示がある。

1.データ分析の理論的基礎となる確率論や統計学等の基礎を理解したうえで、データから意味を抽出し現場にフィードバックできるようになる。
2. Excel、R等を用いてデータ分析に必要な基礎的な統計処理ができるようになる。
3. 自らの専門分野に数理・データサイエンス・AIを応用するために、回帰分析などのデータ解析について概要を理解し、汎用統計ソフトのインターフェースをとおして効率的な解析を習得する。

フィードバックを含め全15回の授業で、統計ソフトを用いてデータ分析を実践する。本演習の前半ではビジネスの現場での使用頻度が圧倒的で「統計検定 データサイエンス基礎」の公式ソフトでもある「Excel（分析ツール）」、後半では研究の場で活用される「R」を用いたデータ分析を予定している。
また、演習の中では、各種の教材の活用により、統計検定2〜3級レベル、データサイエンス基礎レベルの課題への取り組みも予定している。
受講者の関心領域によってはゲストスピーカーの協力を得ることもある。
開講にあたっては、受講生の所属するキャンパスの配置や受講形態にも配慮し、一部メディア授業も取り入れる。

Purpose
This course will introduce the wonderful world of proteins. Proteins are a type of organic macromolecule that are fundamental building blocks of life. While we hear a lot about proteins in daily life, in ads for protein shakes and protein powders, there are a few misconceptions about why proteins are essential and how they work. The many proteins manufactured by cells perform a broad range of essential functions; they are the molecular workforce of living organisms. Proteins catalyze metabolic reactions, replicate DNA, respond to stimuli, provide movement, and much more. Here, we will explore how proteins are constructed and fold into three-dimensional shapes, the kinds of bonds that hold these folded structures together, and the immense range of proteins' roles in our life. We will also explore how proteins are purified and characterized in order to understand their structure and function.

1. Gain a deeper understanding of proteins and structural biology.
2. Appreciate the important range of roles the proteins perform in our life.
3. Be familiar with the tools for studying, characterizing, and determining the 3D structure of proteins.

The following topics will be covered during the 14 weeks of the semester. Week 15 is an exam session, and a feedback class is given at week 16.

For practice with writing, students identify, recognize, or understand basic elements of academic writing and, then, recall and apply this knowledge in the process of organizing and revising a short academic essay of at least 300 words. Under the guidance of the instructor they learn necessary foundational academic writing skills as stated in the Course Goal section below.

For practice with listening, students take the online course known as GORILLA (Global Online Resources for International Language Learning Assistance) outside class. They are assessed on their listening proficiency through weekly online assignments, as well as the four tests that the instructor administers in class.

For vocabulary learning, students use the standard reference book titled “Kyoto University Vocabulary Database 1110.” Like the listening component, students independently study words from the general academic list that the instructor assigns (usually 50 words a week) and are tested on a number of these words weekly.

By the end of this course, students will acquire the following skills at varying levels. Students should be able to:
- Recognize and use basic academic words in English
- Process general academic discourse presented aurally
- Identify the locations, functions, and features of the standard elements of essay introduction paragraphs (i.e., hook, topic statements, general statements and thesis statement) and apply this knowledge to write suitable introduction paragraphs for short academic essays

For the development of students' skills in English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP), English Writing-Listening A (EWLA) consists of three components: writing, listening, and vocabulary.

For practice with writing, students identify, recognize, or understand basic elements of academic writing and, then, recall and apply this knowledge in the process of organizing and revising a short academic essay of at least 300 words. Under the guidance of the instructor they learn necessary foundational academic writing skills as stated in the Course Goal section below.

For practice with listening, students take the online course known as GORILLA (Global Online Resources for International Language Learning Assistance) outside class. They are assessed on their listening proficiency through weekly online assignments, as well as the four tests that the instructor administers in class.

For vocabulary learning, students use the standard reference book titled “Kyoto University Vocabulary Database 1110.” Like the listening component, students independently study words from the general academic list that the instructor assigns (usually 50 words a week) and are tested on a number of these words weekly.

By the end of this course, students will acquire the following skills at varying levels. Students should be able to:
- Recognize and use basic academic words in English
- Process general academic discourse presented aurally
- Identify the locations, functions, and features of the standard elements of essay introduction paragraphs (i.e., hook, topic statements, general statements and thesis statement) and apply this knowledge to write suitable introduction paragraphs for short academic essays
