私たちは世界のなかに、事物だけでなく「価値」も見いだします。そして自らの人生が価値あるものであることも欲します。しかし、価値はどのような仕方で存在し、どのような仕方で認識されるのでしょうか。本授業では、「幸福」「善」「美」などのテーマを取り上げ、たんに主観的な幻想ではなく、しかし客観的な物質とも異なる、価値というものの在り方とその認識論上の意味を探ります（その際、おもに分析哲学における様々な知見を参照します）。参考書である『幸福はなぜ哲学の問題になるのか』（太田出版）の一部をブラッシュアップした内容と、他の多くの先行研究について、お話しをする予定です。

おもに分析哲学に関する基礎的な知識を得るとともに、価値と認識との関係について、さまざまな観点から理解を深める。

In today’s interconnected world, vibrant and dynamic societies are shaped by people on the move;individuals born in one country and living in another. This course offers an in-depth look at global migration trends and the diverse experiences of those who relocate and build lives in foreign lands.

As a seminar-based course, it focuses on human migration patterns, particularly in the Asia-Pacific, Southeast Asia, and other global regions. Through interactive discussions and activities, students will explore the complex realities of migration, examining its causes, challenges, and far-reaching impacts on individuals, communities, and nations.

This course will deepen your understanding of how migration transforms the world;and how it continues to shape the societies we live in today.

This course is discussion and debate oriented. Students will have to actively engage in discussions complete assigned readings essential for informed participation, and submit concise reflection essays. This course has a strong emphasis on class dialogue and group activities so students need to possess proficient English language skills for effective communication with their peers.

The final semester grade will be decided upon by short reports to questions in the syllabus (35%) participation in class lectures (35%) and a joint group project (30%) to be submitted at the end of the course.

Each week will consist of materials to be prepared in advance for class discussion.

This course restricts student enrollment by 25. Students require a high speaking level of English to participate in class discussions. Office hours are on Mondays 4th period by appointment.

　我が国の裁判制度は，近代西欧の制度を明治期に移植し，その後の社会の実情に即しながら発展してきた。制度そのものは，１８８９年公布の大日本帝国憲法下で一応の確立を見たが，１９４６年公布の日本国憲法の下で大きな変容を遂げた。21世紀に入り、民事司法・刑事司法・法曹の在り方、国民の司法参加など司法制度の各分野で広範に改革が行われた。
　本講義では，これら裁判制度を巡る大きな変動に着目して現下において進行している各分野への影響と関連する諸問題等を念頭におきながら，これからの司法の課題と展望を考察するに不可欠な視点を得ることを目的とする。

・裁判制度に関わる組織とその担い手，民事・刑事・家事・少年等の各分野の手続の仕組み等についての基本的な知識を習得する。
・学んだ内容を通して，裁判が社会・経済に及ばす影響を正しく理解する能力の向上を図る。
・基本的な法的思考方法（リーガルマインド）を身に付ける。

This course examines how law and culture interact in East Asian societies, with a focus on democratic settings. While drawing on constitutional principles that echo Western traditions, these societies have developed legal institutions shaped by distinct cultural values, historical experiences, and political trajectories. Students will be introduced to key legal structures and ideas that influence how law is understood and practiced in the region. Through both historical and contemporary examples, we will explore themes such as constitutionalism, human rights, and social change. The course also considers ongoing challenges-including public health, digital technology, and demographic shifts-while encouraging students to reflect on how legal systems relate to broader cultural contexts and evolving social values.

This course is structured in two main parts: the first half focuses on foundational legal institutions in East Asia; the second half turns to contemporary social challenges and how law responds to them. Together, these two dimensions offer students a broad yet contextualised understanding of how law operates within culture-and how culture, in turn, shapes legal meaning and practice.

Each weekly session (Week 2-14) follows a consistent structure: 50 minutes of lecture introducing the topic and key concepts, 20 minutes of group discussion using guided questions and case studies, 15 minutes of sharing and feedback, and 5 minutes for summary.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to approach the material with openness and curiosity. The aim is not to provide definitive answers, but to explore diversity in legal thinking while learning basic knowledge and engage with the deeper cultural and normative dimensions of law in East Asia.

Students are expected to have the ability to learn and participate in discussions in English. No prior legal or disciplinary knowledge is required. An open mind and a willingness to engage with diverse perspectives are essential.

The final grade will be based on class participation (30%) and a final exam (70%).
Class participation will be evaluated through students’ engagement in group discussions and their contributions to in-class sharing activities. There will be no written assignments required outside of class. However, in-class tasks may vary depending on the weekly topic and may include short written responses, group exercises, or thematic reflections.
The final exam will consist of both multiple-choice questions, which assess students’ understanding of foundational course content, and analytical questions, which evaluate the ability to think critically and apply concepts to real-world scenarios based on the knowledge learned.

Students are expected to review lecture materials and required readings after each class, and to complete optional supplementary readings according to their time and capacity. These efforts will support their ability to engage with more complex discussions and analytical tasks in the later stages of the course. Students are also encouraged to stay informed about relevant real-world issues, which may serve as material for in-class discussions and analysis.

　本授業では、アメリカ中央情報局（CIA）の女性スパイの歴史を描いた、ベストセラーのノンフィクションを読む。著名なジャーナリストの手による一般書であるが、一見センセーショナルなテーマとは裏腹に、堅実な史料調査と膨大なインタビューに基づいて書かれており、そこにはアメリカのインテリジェンス（諜報）の歴史、女性史、外交史が交錯する。スリリングな話の展開を追いながら、英文の速読力を養うとともに、一般にノンフィクション作品でよく用いられるような語彙・表現を学び、アメリカのインテリジェンス史、女性史、外交史にかんする幅広い教養的知識を身につける。翻訳するのではなく、前後関係を考えながら内容を大掴みにすることを重視する。

・アメリカのインテリジェンス史、女性史、外交史についての知識を英語で修得する。

本授業では、Asko Parpola著、The Roots of Hinduism, The Early Aryans and the Indus Civilization（2015年）を読む。本書はインドのヒンドゥー教のルーツを、インダス文明およびそれ以前にインド・アーリア人が辿った地の文化に遡り、文献学、言語学および考古学などの研究成果を用いて多角的な視点から究明する良書である。謎の多い古代の文明をどのように解き明かすのか、ヒンドゥー教そのものに興味がなくとも、非常に刺激に富んだ学びの機会となるだろう。インドの思想や歴史に興味のある学生はもちろん、オリエントやアジアの考古学、歴史言語学、インダス文字の解読などに興味のある学生には特に推奨したい。本書を読み進めながら、学術的な英語論文に親しみ、内容を読み取って議論できる能力を養う。

本授業では、内容を理解しそれを簡単な英語で説明することを中心に進める。学期の最初に参加者各自の担当箇所を決め（担当は一学期の間に一人一回）、授業ではその箇所について簡単なスライドを用意し5-10分ほどの説明を行う。自分の言葉でかみくだいた、簡単な説明でよい。発表について他の参加者から、質問やコメントを募る。自分の言葉で説明し議論を行うことで、著書に書かれた研究への理解が深まることを、参加者皆で体験したい。

学術的な英語表現に慣れ、英語の学術書を理解する力がつく。英語での簡単なプレゼンと議論に慣れる。インダス文明とヒンドゥー教についての最新の議論を理解する。

This course aims to give you the skills to understand and respond to academic texts with confidence, while also introducing you to perspectives and contemporary research in the field of higher education　studies. Each week, you will be introduced to important ideas in a variety of formats, including academic journal articles, academic presentations, podcasts, online videos, and popular media. You will also be taught a variety of academic skills that will help you to understand these texts more easily, and respond in detail.

At the end of this course, you will have a foundational understanding of higher education, and the necessary academic skills to support your own exploration of the humanities and social sciences in the future, and have the skills to engage with these ideas with confidence.

現代の民主主義では、政党が民意の反映・政府の形成などに大きな役割を果たしている。政党政治のあり方は、民主主義がどのように動いているのかを考える上で重要なテーマで
ある。近年では民主主義諸国において、政党のあり方に変動が生じているとも言われる。
本講義は、Cass Mudde, 2019. The Far Right Today. Polity.の一部を講読することで、比較政治的な観点から政党に関する基礎的な知識を得ること
を目的とする。

外国文献講読（法・英）は専門への導入コースなので二回生以上を対象とする。

平常点（授業への参加状況、講読の内容：45%）と期末考査（55％）による。
毎回の提出物を求め、それに基づく議論、授業内でのクイズによって平常点は評価される。毎回の出席・提出物は平常点評価の必要条件であるが、それだけでは十分ではない。

指定された範囲を読んだ上で、要約もしくは訳文を作成し、疑問点などを整理する。毎週、全員が
要約・疑問点に関するペーパーを提出することを求める。予習復習については、授業時間の倍以上

The objective of this course is to improve students’ academic English ability in economics. Students will read journal articles, deliver group and individual presentations, read aloud magazine articles, listen to audio podcast recordings, and engage in discussions. All material used in this course and presentation topics will be related to Economics. Examples of topics covered are International Trade, Cultural Economics, and Economic Development.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand a range of academic journal articles in economics, as well as improve their English academic reading, listening, presentation, and discussion skills.

The classes will be conducted mainly through student presentations (and discussions) on economics topics. Students will also practice reading aloud articles from magazines in English such as the Economist or Businessweek. Students will also listen to podcasts on academic articles and conduct discussions on their understanding of the material. The contents covered are different from the course "Readings in Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics, English)A-E1".

Week 1-2: introduction to the course and guidance

Week 3-14: Student (individual or team depending on class size) presentations on their assigned themes. During the presentation, the participants must ask questions to demonstrate their understanding. Other activities include reading out magazine articles and listening to podcasts on related material, followed by discussion.

Week 15: Wrap-up and feedback

The class will be conducted completely in English, so students should have a basic understanding of English. Basic knowledge of economics is desirable.
