Japanese language courses for research students in the Graduate Schools/Faculties (Auditing Students (Japanese) of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences)

Overview

Research students who wish to take Japanese language courses in the regular curriculum need to consult their academic advisors before the registration begins.
Also, the required documents of the application for auditing must be submitted by their graduate school or faculty office to the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences. Contact your graduate school/faculty office for details.

An “Auditing Student (Japanese) card” is given to research students who have completed the above application. The auditing number is required for the Course Registration STEP2.

After receiving the "Auditing Student (Japanese) card", you can attend the classes as Japanese Course Auditing Student (Japanese) of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (however, you are not eligible to acquire any credits for these classes.)

Notices

  • Complete biginners intending to register for elementary or introductory courses are strongly advised to join the Hiragana Learning Session or practice hiragana and Katakana using 'Samidori', the online learning system, before the courses commence.
  • Placement tests will be conducted to check your Japanese language ability if you register for Elementary II or higher level courses. However, a student who has taken 4H course B or 8H course in the previous semester and passed it, will be exempted from this semester's placement test and will be allowed to take courses from the next higher level. Furthermore, a student who received 65~74 (C) or 60~64 (D) and feels uneasy about advancing to the next level may consult one of the faculty during the advisory service for Japanese language course registration.
  • Make sure that the “4H Course A” of each level covers only the first half of the textbook while the “4H Course B” covers the second half of the textbook. Check the syllabus for the details of these courses.
