Japanese language courses in the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum
In order to respond to each student’s needs, Japanese language courses in the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum are offered from absolute beginner to intermediate and advanced levels. At every level, we offer courses that focus on specific skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension. You may choose to take courses that meet once a week, or opt for more intensive study by taking the 8-hour courses that meet four times per week (the courses you are eligible to take will differ according to your faculty or division/course program).
We encourage you to evaluate your current Japanese language proficiency objectively, and carefully consider what types of improvements you need to make to your Japanese language abilities—both to facilitate your current studies and research as well as to improve your future career prospects—and hope that you make challenging selections. The Japanese language courses a student is eligible to take (audit) depends on his/her student status. Students should refer to the pages listed below for detailed information.
