Japanese language courses in the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum Precautions on registration and attendance
Registration Information
- Please check the academic calendar for the schedule of Japanese language courses in the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum.
- Applicants must register for their courses online during the registration period.
- After the registration deadline, students are not permitted to attend courses they have not registered.
- The maximum number of courses a student is eligible to take depends on his/her student status. Please follow the instructions for details. When registering please make sure that your Japanese language courses do not conflict with any other courses you are taking.
- For Elementary II or higher level courses, applicants are required to take a placement test.
- The level from which a student will be allowed to choose his/her classes is determined based on the results of the placement test. We will let you know your placement test results by email. You may not be able to take some of the courses you opted to take depending on your test results. Applicants are only allowed to register for the courses which are suited to their Japanese language ability.
- The placement test is designed to evaluate your reading, writing and listening skills.
- If you register for the conversation courses, take the first lesson to confirm that the level suits you.
- A student who has taken 4H course B or 8H course in the previous semester and passed it, will be exempted from this semester's placement test and will be allowed to take courses from the next higher level.
We will let you know by email if you are exempted. If you have any inquiries about exemption, please inquire at International Student Division (ISD) Japanese Education Section (E-mail: A30kyomuj@mail2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp). - If you want to consult about registration (cases where the result of Placement test differs from the level you chose in Registration (STEP1)), the Japanese language coordinators are available for consultation during the online advisory service days. If you wish to take the online advisory service, make an online reservation in advance through the URL given in the E-mail announcing the result of the Placement test.
- For applicants who only wish to take a kanji class, there is no need to take a placement test. Please note that registration is, in principle, limited to one kanji class per applicant.
- Your Japanese language course registration will not be finalized until you complete Course Registration (STEP2). Please be sure to complete this step.
- After Course Registration (STEP2), if a course is oversubscribed, a lottery will be held to select the participants.
- Make sure to confirm your registration status on KULASIS after the afternoon of October 7.
